Oceanwood Welcomes New Owners Kurt and Karen Youland
Published Nov 14, 2010
Maine native Kurt Youland and his wife Karen always wanted an oceanfront escape. The Youland’s who call Turner Maine home, desired a retreat from their busy lives. The Youlands are classic Maine entrepreneurs with multiple business interests including construction, land development, aviation, and golf course ownership.
Kurt whose real estate holdings run the gamete from remote camps to commercial properties knew what he was searching for, but he knew it would be a rare parcel that would satisfy all his and Karen’s dreams. “When I first saw Oceanwood I knew this was the place. It had everything Karen and I wanted… a spectacular location, a deed restricted environment to protect the community values, a low density development plan with lots of “common green areas” and lastly underground utilities. I just hate to see power lines in such a natural setting”.
Karen especially likes the serenity of the location, the easy access to Acadia National Park, and the convenience of nearby Winter Harbor. “ I can pick-up all the basics right in the neighborhood, yet Ellsworth with everything we could ever need is just 25 minutes away.”
It was a difficult decisions to chose the perfect lot in Oceanwood….”they are all beautiful, each with their own unique characteristics, Kurt noted. In the end we chose lot 111. We both liked the open ocean views, yet its location right at the mouth of the harbor offered some protection and a location for a mooring. We could not be happier with the choice”.
They plan to start building next year, and while the design is not finalized, Kurt and Karen envision a classic Maine shingled cottage right on the shores edge. “We are eager to get started and sometimes Karen and I jump in the helicopter and fly up just for the afternoon. We love walking the property and planning the construction”.
In their spare time the Youlands enjoy hunting, fishing and “RVing”. “ We love traveling in our Wanderlodge, following the Boston Red Sox, or escaping to our winter home in the aviation community of Spruce Creek, near Daytona Beach Florida”.
We welcome the Youlands to the neighborhood.
