What a Fantastic Year at Oceanwood
Published Nov 14, 2010
What a fantastic year at Oceanwood!!! The sun shone all year illuminating the majestic beauty of the area – from the shimmering sunshine days of spring all the way through to the golden fall, life at Oceanwood was glorious. Hurricane Earl was an exciting departure from the usually clear skies, providing magnificent views of the crashing waves on the Oceanwood shores. As much as I love the sun reflecting soft amber light from the pink rocks and creating ever changing green blue hues in the Ocean, my favorite part of the day is the brilliance of the moon as it rises at the head of Birch Harbor.
My wife, Nerys, 13 year old son, Jack, and I enjoyed much that the area has to offer. We particularly loved our daily cycle around the 12 mile Acadia Park loop, hiking the parks trails, climbing Schoodic Head and ferrying across to MDI (and leaving the crowds behind when we came back!!),. We have enjoyed building the friendships of the local community at the Nautica, Gerishes, Chases, Schoodic Arts for all, the Yacht club and golf club. It’s amazing how the Schoodic peninsula has become home in such a short space of time.
During the year we spent much time improving the land. In the spring we started a program to put in new roads and underground electricity, which is now complete. Lots were mapped out and in some cases cleared and landscaped. Wells were dug on many of the lots and some of the buildings were renovated. It was both a busy and fun summer.
We welcomed the Youlands to Oceanwood, who bought lot 111. It was a thrill to see then enjoying their new surroundings as much as we did. They were one of the many welcome and enthusiastic visitors that we had this year, and we are looking forward to welcoming back many of the others as buyers during the coming season. Along with ourselves, and the Youlands, there are the Murphys, Goodenoughs and Jim Sperry living at Oceanwood – making it quite the community now!!
We have more exciting work planned for 2011. We intend to start putting hiking trails into the common areas and continue our landscaping work on a number of lots, and renovation of some of the old camps.
